How to use NextGenPCR® to control the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic?
There are many examples where speed of detection of SARS-CoV-2 is beneficial or even indispensable. Before boarding an airplane all passengers can have a PCR-test performed just before take-off. This is the best way of preventing multiple infections during travel. Patients and employees entering a hospital can be tested before entering. They can then be refused entry or kept separate immediately. This will prevent infections of already vulnerable people. Many other examples exist.
A PCR-test from sample to result in less than 30 minutes will be a big help in all of these examples.
On top of that an important part of controlling a pandemic is understanding how the SARS-CoV-2 virus evolves in in a population and which mutations make it more contagious and/or are more disease causing or even lethal. By using NextGenPCR® the number of nanopore sequencing runs that can be performed goes from 1 per day to 4 per day. Gathering 4 times more data about the variants that infect a population means a much better understanding of the spread of the disease and therefore, a much better chance to control the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
At MBS (Molecular Biology Systems) we continuously strive to develop and improve SARS-CoV-2 PCR products available in our portfolio. Our products provide laboratories with the necessary tools to help combat the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. MBS is proud to be part of an effective fight against this Corona Virus.
